CHICAGO (CBS) — Two people have been killed and 10 others wounded in shootings Tuesday on the city’s South and West sides.
The latest fatal shooting happened at 2:37 a.m. in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 51-year-old man was standing outside in the 600 block of North Ridgeway when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots, authorities said. He was shot in the back and taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. His name had not been released Tuesday afternoon.
Two hours earlier, one man was killed and another wounded in a shooting in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. Officers heard loud reports at 12:37 a.m. and found the victims with gunshot wounds in the 11100 block of South Michigan. Gerald Gordon, 19, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene at 1 a.m., authorities said. The other man, 22, was shot in the head and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened at 2:08 p.m. in the West Side Austin neighborhood. Two teenagers were wounded in the attack in the 5300 block of West Crystal. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks and taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, and an 18-year-old man was shot in the left leg and taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital.
About 10:45 a.m., two men were hurt in a drive-by attack in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. They were sitting on a porch in the 1800 block of West 58th Street about 10:45 a.m. when a dark Chevrolet drove by and a passenger fired shots, police said. A 30-year-old man was shot in the neck and taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, and a 27-year-old man was shot in the back and also taken to Stroger in good condition.
Less than 10 minutes earlier, a man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. The 39-year-old was shot in the right leg in the 600 block of West 107th Street at 10:38 a.m., police said. He was taken in fair condition to Roseland Hospital.
About 9:30 a.m., two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood. They were standing outside in the 8600 block of South Morgan when a red vehicle with two people inside pulled up and one of them fired shots, police said. A 35-year-old man was shot in the back and right foot, and taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A 36-year-old man was shot in the left thigh and left ankle, and also taken to Christ in fair condition.
More than four hours earlier, a 41-year-old man was shot in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood. About 5:10 a.m., he was in his vehicle in the 4500 block of South Wood when shots rang out and he was struck behind the right ear, police said. He drove himself to St. Anthony Hospital, and was later transferred to Sinai, where he was in serious condition.
At 1:11 a.m., a man was shot in the South Side Park Manor neighborhood. The 20-year-old was in a store in the 7100 block of South State Street when someone fired shots from outside, police said. He was shot in the leg and buttocks and taken to Christ, where his condition was stabilized.
