(CBS) The Cubs’ season is on the brink.
The visiting Cleveland Indians thoroughly outplayed Chicago on Saturday, earning a 7-2 win at Wrigley Field in Game 4 to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the World Series.
Pitching on three days rest, Indians ace right-hander Corey Kluber earned the win with six innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits while striking out six. He outpitched Cubs right-hander John Lackey, who allowed three runs, two earned, in five innings.
The Cubs opened the scoring on Anthony Rizzo’s RBI single in the first that drove in Dexter Fowler, who led off the game with a bloop double to left field. The Indians responded immediately, tying it on a Carlos Santana homer in the top of the second and grabbing a 2-1 lead when Corey Kluber chopped a slow roller down the third-base line that Kris Bryant fielded cleanly but threw wide of first for an error, allowing Lonnie Chisenhall to score from second.
Francisco Lindor added an RBI single in the third inning to put Cleveland up 3-1.
A Chisenhall sac fly made it 4-1 in the sixth, and Jason Kipnis put the dagger in the Cubs with a three-run homer in the seventh for a 7-1 lead.
Game 5 is Sunday at 7:08 p.m. at Wrigley Field. Cubs left-hander Jon Lester will face Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer.
