CHICAGO (CBS) — The death of a South Side man who was assaulted in 2007 in the Washington Park neighborhood has been ruled a homicide.
Robert Bishop, 78, died Monday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Saturday found he died of complications of traumatic brain injury from a remote assault and his death was ruled a homicide.
Bishop was assaulted with “broom handles and sharp objects” on May 8, 2007, in the 5100 block of South Calumet, the medical examiner’s office said. He lived in the same block as the incident.
The medical examiner’s office said someone was in custody in connection with the assault, but could not immediately provide additional information early Monday. Chicago Police have not been notified of Bishop’s death.
